National Carnivals To explain, NSW athletes in the U13 and U15 age groups may be selected by the LAANSW from those competing at the State Track & Field Championships each March to compete at the National Australian Teams Championships. Only 22 U13s (11 boys and 11 girls) are chosen to represent the NSW State team. Each state association also selects only four U15s (two boys and two girls) to compete at the simultaneous National Australian Multi-Event Championships (i.e. the two are held together) on the April weekend closest to Anzac Day. To be selected for either is a real honour! The Trans Tasman Challenge is an Under 11 and Under 12 multi event competition between a NSW team and a team from Auckland, New Zealand. The competition is held each January and alternates each year between Sydney and Auckland. In 2009, it was at Homebush on January 18, 2009. Australian trials are held the first Sunday each November. Trans Tasman Challenge, Homebush, January 18, 2009 Three of our athletes were chosen, along with two reserves,
our best ever achievement in this carnival. Tom Lorkin was injured
and reserve Zach Edelstein was selected to run on the day, making it
into two finals! Finals results included:-
