Training for Officials

What can parents do to help?  Please download a set of Rules of Competition and download the multiple choiceParents' Knowledge Test (an Excel file). Just type in X to indicate your answers and email your completed questionnaire to our committee member Susan Murray . Get 90pc right and we will reward you with a treasured Red Shirt. By doing so, you help enormously in managing our Friday night competitions. For a little help from your friends, if you are using Internet Explorer with Windows 95 or higher, click A little help, please!(Don't try it with other browsers as they may lock.)

Every parent you see wearing a red shirt has sat the officials/coaches test and over fifty have done so in recent years. They are there to help. (Learning the rules does not require you to join the Committee!) If you have any queries about conducting events etc please approach them. A copy of the “Rules of Competition” is kept in the clubhouse.

Read “Know your events” in The Little Athletics N.S.W Handbook you received at registration. Note that every “equipment crate” on the field contains instructions for that event.

Want to get really serious? LAANSW offers a series of officials’ certificates (from Level D up to A) based on closed book examinations of the rules.

For parents who want to hone their coaching skills, we recommend a one day, no exam “Introduction to Coaching” or “ITC” course, run mostly through winter. Ideally, every Age Manager should have a Level O certificate. The next step is Level 1, requiring 16 hours over one weekend and a successful examination. Professional coaches go on to Levels 2, Level 3 and, rarely, Level 4.
