State Championships To explain, to get to the LAANSW State Track and Field Championships, our athletes need to progress through LAANSW's Inner City Zone Carnival (the first four athletes from Zone qualify) leading to the Southern Metropolitan Region No 3 Carnival (the first three athletes from Region qualify) in order to compete at the LAANSW State Championships on the third weekend of March at Homebush. For the structure of our Region see "Region Results" on the menu alongside. Of the other competing Regions at State, Region No 1 is comprised of 4 zones (Northern Metropolitan, North East Metropolitan, North West Metropolitan and Central Coast Zones); Region No 2 is also comprised of 4 zones (West Metropolitan, Outer West Metropolitan, Central West Metropolitan, and Blue Mountains Zones), Region No 4 is comprised of 6 Zones (Northern Rivers, New England, Mid-North Coast, Port Hunter, Lake Macquarie and Hunter Zones); Region No 5 is comprised of 6 Zones (Mid South Coast, South Coast Highlands, Eastern Rivers, Eastern Riverina, Western Riverina, Western Plains and Central Tablelands Zones). Of around 40,000 athletes registered with LAANSW, only some 2,000 get to compete at State. Just to be there is a monument to the competitor's atheticism, a moment to be treasured. Winning a medal places the athlete in the top 1pc of NSW young athletes. LAANSW also conducts two
separate statewide carnivals:-
[]State Relay Championships , at Homebush
on on the fourth Sunday of November. Despite the name, team field
events are included. For a copy of the rules, see
www.laansw.com.au click NSW/Championships. For a list of ESLAC
times and records at State Relays, please click "Records" on the menu
alongside.
[] State Multi-Events where each age
group competes across three field and three track events. Held on the
first weekend in March, and always in a country town. In 2008, it was held
in Orange. For full results see

Medals were won by Evan Jennis with two golds and a bronze. His first gold was in the
B15 shot put with a distance of 15.03m, beating the next placer by a
whopping half a metre and beating his own Off-Trumper record of 14.86m at
the Region Carnival. Then he did it again with gold at the Discus (57.97m)
and bronze at Javelin (47.51m), both throws creating new Eastern Suburbs
Off-Trumper records. Oscar Pople
won two silvers in the 100m with a time of 11.7secs,
and in the 200m with a time of 24.03secs, both times being new Off-Trumper
records. Brave Tom
Lorkin, who has been battling a problem with a heel tendon
all season, snatched silver in the B12 60H, followed less than half a
second behind by Zach
Edelstein. Its a great effort for one club to have two people
in a State final. Wow! Amongst the girls, Tiana Penitani won gold in the G13 80H with 12.65 secs, beating
Charlotte (Charlie) Wadsworth’s 2005 Eastern Suburbs Off-Trumper record of
13.3 secs, with Eliza Gazal
a little over a second behind, coming 7th. Again, a strong performance from one
club. Charly-Rose
Dunne won Bronze in the G11 Triple Jump with 8.93m, and
had the best time in her 60H heat with 9.88secs but had to settle for
6th in Final with 10.14secs. Katie Haywood became the first Eastern Suburbs girl in decades to represent us at Javelin and created an Off-Trumper G13 record of 24.93m, settling for 9th in the State. We salute all our athletes who qualified for the State Carnival. Given that some 40,000 athletes register each year, it is a mark of distinction to make it to State.
